Not only does today mark April Fool’s Day, the literal start to April Showers bring May Flowers, but it also marks the start of Autism Awareness Month.
So why should you care about Autism Awareness? About 1 percent of the world lives with an autism spectrum disorder. That’s more than 3.5 million Americans and the numbers are growing. Your siblings, children, family, friends, and neighbors may be someone that is affected. Autism in U.S. children has increased by almost 120% in the last 10 years. Back in 2000 the numbers were 1 in every 150 but more recently in 2010 the numbers grew to 1 in every 68. Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability.
April 2nd is the 8th annual Autism Awareness Day! Autism organizations around the world celebrate the day with unique fundraising and awareness raising events!
Stella and Dot has partnered with the HollyRod Foundation to create the Harmony bracelet to support Autism Awareness. The beautifully colorful bracelet is only $19.00. All net proceeds from the bracelet will be donated to the HollyRod Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing compassionate care to those living with autism and their families.
